Fundraising Coffee Morning

Edinburgh

Saturday 24 January 2015

Twenty-seven members and friends of the Order joined our hostess Rosalind Newton in her lovely Edinburgh Flat to enjoy morning coffee and cakes. The morning started with the auction of an attractive brass kaleidoscope gifted by Martin Passmore. Bidding for this item was enthusiastic and eventually one of the ladies managed to secure it as her own. And Martin himself won the prize hamper (above left).

The Commander of the East of Scotland Commandery Peter Rae then gave a short talk on the history and work of our Order, which we all found interesting and enjoyed very much. Rosalind then explained the work of her proposed charity, Mission Aviation Fellowship.

Rosalind, her friends and neighbour provided an array of homemade cakes, biscuits, and sponges for guests to feast on. Raffle tickets were  on sale, along with a  table with a selection of books, jewellery, DVD’s, and small gifts as part of the bring and buy angle.

The climax of the morning was the raffle draw and all those attending gathered in the kitchen where, in the capable hands of Rosalind and Peter Rae, about twenty prizes were available and most people attending received a prize.

Mary Kenyon was delighted to win a toy of Aleksandr Orlov for her granddaughter (above left).

In total this superb event raised £400 which will go to Rosalind’s charity, another great fund-raising success for the Order.  Well done to Rosalind for organising and hosting this in her home.
